Let me start off by saying you do not need this much power to drive screws. The 12volt wh12dmr has ample power to do any screwing or most lag bolting you will ever want to do. And the 12volt is lighter and smaller with the battery pack. The bodies of the 12v 14v and 18v are all exactly the same as far as I can tell. BUT if you already own a Hitachi ds18dmr 18 volt then this will be the drill for you. You can use the extra batteries between them and in the future when they start dying off like dinosaurs, you have extra time before you are "screwed" or actually not screwing as it may be. So if you don't mind packing a extra pound or two this will be the drill for you; if you own a Hitachi 18V. Now if the weight is something you are worried about then buy Hitachi's lithium ion that is out now.

++ Heavy Duty 1240w Electric Demolition Jack Hammer

While this is definitely made in China, don't let that fool you. It is heavy duty and will probably compete with the $500 & $600 electric jackhammers. How long it will live is unknown. Getting parts may be sketchy, since you really don't know who manufactures it. The metal toolbox that it comes in is built decently, but there is no padding, so I would recommend gluing some foam in the box to cushion everything. I used it to break up an old, old, hard concrete step that had been in the way for the last 12 years. In 15 minutes, it was broken into football sized chunks and the jack hammer wasn't even breathing hard.



EToolsCity is great. The tool is supposed to ship with 2 extra brushes, but mine were missing. I contacted the seller and they mailed me 2 brushes, no questions asked. They also sell parts and other bits. I definitely recommend them.



If you are going to need a jack hammer more than once, may as well buy this one and have it around.

I have not really asked it to do heavy-duty remodeling or contractor-level work, but in comparison to a Craftsman, it is holding up *much* better. Bearing and gear noise are about the same as when new. (whereas the Craftsman is obviously galling its bearings). When driving many screws (10s, but not 100s) the exhaust air gets noticeably hot, enough so that I explicitly let it cool off. That said, though, it's been good enough that I got a pair for my father for Christmas, and he uses tools _hard_.

I was sad the day my drill didn't charge anymore. The drill stopped charging after about four years of use. I am still going to get another one because the size is perfect, it's cheap, and serves my uses.

I've been very pleased with the operations of the Senco saw. The unit's contour to ones' hand and low vibration make the tool very easy to maneuver and to operate. As a caveat, my experiences with the tool have been limited to drywall. The depth guide is easy to adjust and does not need tools, making the feature very convenient. The overall cost of the device, including the battery & charger, is much more than comparable cordless devices. The convenience, however, of the cordless device outweighs the additional costs. While the device has limited use, the saw is the right tool when such a device is needed.

I've bought two of these....or rather I bought one...and the first one was awful. The clutch broke, the side light broke, the balance was poor and the gearing was rough. Thing is- I went to return it after the drill completely lost any torque (it just slipped and clicked under the slightest resistance) and I saw that they had redesigned it. Turns out Hitachi had too many problems...or just didn't finish their design on the the first run. The remake is much much better. I think this might explain why some people have had the problems they've mentioned.



Either way, shame on Hitachi for putting out such a terrible first edition. It should have never seen the market. That said, their redesign is really what a good drill should be and their warranty is one of the best. I ended up exchanging for the updated version mostly out of brand curiosity and because I didn't like the other options. It is a fine drill and I would rate it higher except for my disappointment in the first version I bought. Balance is good and you can tell they've addressed the gearing failure. The batteries were excellent on both models.

I do home repair, and I have used this drill for 2 years, with no problems. It does only have a 3/8 chuck while some others are 1/2 inch, and the chuck is plastic on the outside, but that hasn't been an issue for me. I have dropped it several times, and it hasn't stopped working yet.



I like the feel and weight, and it has plenty of power. The batteries are still going strong, and they spend a lot of time in my truck, in the hot and cold and not plugged in. I also purchased a 5 3/8 saw (tool only) which I like very much and it shares the batteries. I would recommend it.

Let me say that the drill did perform well on all tasks: screw driving, drilling and hammer drilling. Problem was both batteries would no longer hold charge after eight months of use. They were most likely charge cycled about 25 times. I did use it alot for high current tasks such as lag screw driving and hammer drilling so the deep discharging my have something to do with it. May be a good tool for homeowner tasks. My Rigid 18 volt had better torque and the batteries are still working and its an older tool. I did notice newer Makita LiOn tools use a different style battery connection design thus your older tools (NiMH) can't use them. Rigid tools bought with NiMH batteries can be used with newer Lion batteries

I owned this little drill for 9 years before it finally crapped out. I used it for the occasional close quarter work and it is perfect for that purpose.



I don't know of another drill like it. This is a powerful little drill that will drill holes and drive screws in a tighter space than any other drill. It is not suited for truly heavy duty work. Mine gave up when asked to hog out big holes for running wire.



I agree that the paddle switch is precariously placed near the chuck and I have also accidentally activated the switch when changing bits. I find the paddle switch gives a lot of control, however, because of the long travel and needs to be in that location in order to keep the size of this close-quarter drill to the minumum. Having your hand near the bit is very comfortable and aids in control as well.



The Miluwakee Hole-hawg is as famous as their Sawz-all and should be up to continuous duty drilling. I will replace this drill with one just like it but will get a Hole-hawg for drilling lots of big holes in structural framing.

I have been completely satisfied with this product. I have used it daily on the job, working in adverse conditions (rain, cold, heat, any combo of them) for over 6 years. Started with the standard batteries and bought a 2nd drill with the new ni mh batteries 18 months ago. All batteries still work great. Both chargers still work great. (even though the older charger won't charge the newer batteries). One drill was even dropped into a full hot tub without lasting problems. I find the 12v driver to be light enough for extended use and still powerfull enough to drive long screws. If you are only doing occaisional work, the 14.4v may suit you better. Thanks to a thief, I am going to be purchasing another cordless soon, and it will be a Makita 12v.

This is my second one of these drills the last one I had for 6 years a long time for a cordless tool that gets used by a finish carpenter everyday. The amazing thing is how long the batteries last. Other brands of cordless tools I've had, the batteries won't hold a charge after about a year and a half. After 6 years my batteries in my old Panasonic drill are still holding a charge I tried them in my new drill when it came in and they worked fine it was the drill that finally gave up. It's alittle pricey for a 15 volt drill but I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Honestly, I have yet to use the Saw (haven't gotten around to that project yet), but I have used the drill to drill into some concrete. The Hammerdrill functionality works great. The Drill and saw both have brakes on them a nice feature.



I would buy this set again.



Update 6/2/10: I used the saw on some pickets for a fence. No problems with cutting or battery life.

Once I finally received the two tools everything was great. These are very good tools, lots of power, nice feel, good control everything I could ask for. This drill is actually the second one of these I have purchased. I bought the first one to use for light duty repairs in building maintenance at work. It's balance, long battery life and light weight were all so good, I bought I second one for use at home. It can't do what a high-torque 1/2 inch battery drill might do, but it definitely can do over 90% of what I need both at home and work. It is especially well designed for fast removal and replacement of screws in just about anything. My only concern so far has been that Skil has been slow to make the Lithium-Ion batteries available for separate purchase. I wanted to have a spare for longer tasks, and the batteries are not widely available. The battery charges relatively quickly and can be charged either on the drill or separated from it. Great drill/driver and good price.

The first unit I received had clearly been a return and only had one battery pack, so I returned it.



The next unit Amazon shipped also looked like it had been used/opened, but at least it had two batteries. However, *both* batteries are defective; when plugged into the charger the light just blinks red (so maybe it's the charger; who knows). The batteries have enough charge to spin the drill; I can feel a vibration as it spins, indicating the axis is off-center.



The build-quality and quality control on these items are completely absent. I recommend steering clear of this worthless 'brand' of tools.

This is an excellent saw, well thought out in design. Rafter hook, Arbor lock and use of extension cord for the power cord are great! No case though...



I found that the Bucket Boss Brand 06066 Pro GateMouth bag fits just fine! Room left for a 12g. 25ft ext cord and a couple of tubes of oil as well as spare blades in the inside end pockets. The bag makes a great way to keep things together in the back of the van.
