I've had the BP140 for a little over a month now, and it's performance is exceptional. It is truly a one tool does all. I have absolutely no trouble shifting between the various modes. It is smooth and requires very little effort. Like any drill I've had with a mechanical speed selector, a slight rotation of the motor is all that's needed if the shift lever does not move easily. Think of a manual transmission in a car. If the gears are not aligned properly, you can't move the shift lever into any gear. I find the screwdriver clutch settings to be just right. They're set at the lower end of the torque range, but when I need to drive a fastener at a higher torque range I'm using the impact mode anyway. The two speed ranges in the drill mode are excellent.
So all in all I'm very satisfied with this all in one tool. And this Makita drill is made in Japan, not china.
